What are cookies
A “cookie” is a small text file created on the user’s computer at the time the user accesses a particular site for the purpose of storing and transporting information. Cookies are sent from a web server (which is the computer/tablet/smartphone on which the visited website is running) to the user’s browser (Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, etc.) and stored on the user’s computer; they are, then, re-sent to the website at the time of subsequent visits.
According to the characteristics and use of cookies, different categories are distinguished:

The duration of cookies is strictly limited to the working session or they can make use of a longer dwell time in order to remember the visitor’s choices. Disabling strictly necessary cookies may affect the user and browsing experience of the website.
- Functional cookies: they make it possible to improve the accessibility of sites and their performance, as well as make various options available to the user. They can be used, in particular, to change the language.
- Analysis cookies (analytics): these are used to anonymously collect and analyze website traffic and usage patterns. These cookies, while not identifying the user, allow, for example, to detect whether the same user returns to log on at different times. They also make it possible to monitor the system and improve its performance and usability. Deactivation of such cookies can be performed without any loss of functionality and will be discussed in detail later.
- Profiling cookies: aimed at creating profiles related to the user and are used in order to send advertising messages in line with the preferences expressed by the user when browsing the web.
- Third-party cookies: cookies set by a domain other than the one visited by the user; these third parties may reside in Italy or abroad. For example, the use of the “social plugins” of Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, which allows the sharing of content on these social networks, involves the transmission of cookies to and from sites operated by third parties. The management of information collected by third parties is governed by the relevant disclosures to which please refer.
